In a bid to encourage compliance with tax regulations among Indian crypto enthusiasts, TaxNodes has devised a strategy to offer complimentary NFTs to its platform users. To entice more Indian crypto investors to pay their taxes, TaxNodes has teamed up with Polygon Labs to present non-fungible tokens as incentives. This move aims to promote the adoption of digital assets in India, where the crypto community is projected to reach over 156 million users by the end of 2023.
The NFTs will be minted on the Polygon Labs blockchain, and eligible users can claim them until July 31 by providing their ITR (Income Tax Return) acknowledgement number. Additionally, as an added bonus, users will receive an immediate 25 percent discount on their ITR filing for the year 2022-2023 when utilizing the TaxNodes platform, as stated in an official release on Tuesday, July 18.
In an attempt to establish a certain level of transparency in the crypto realm, India implemented taxes on cryptocurrency profits in April. The intention behind this move was to create a system that could track crypto transactions, which are predominantly anonymous, and identify potential offenders and suspicious crypto holders who might be involved in illicit activities such as money laundering or terrorism financing.
The decision to impose a 30 percent tax on crypto incomes, coupled with a one percent Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on each crypto transaction, received a mixed response from India's crypto community. While the taxation initiative aimed to legitimize cryptocurrency within India's financial ecosystem, the broad tax bracket drew criticism. Consequently, many perplexed and disillusioned crypto holders in India failed to fulfill their tax obligations in the previous year.
